Abena Appiah from the United States won Miss Grand International 2020 contest held in Thailand
Abena Appiah representing the United States of America, was crowned Miss Grand International 2020 at the world finale of the pageant held on March 28, 2021 at Show DC Hall in Bangkok, Thailand. She was crowned by the outgoing titleholder, Valentina Figuera from Venezuela. Abena Appiah is the very first Miss Grand International titleholder from the United States of America.
At the same pageant, Samantha Bernardo from the Philippines was crowned first runner-up; Ivana Batchelor from Guatemala was crowned second runner-up; Aurra Kharisma from Indonesia was crowned third runner-up and Lala Guedes from Brazil was crowned fourth runner-up.
This year 63 candidates from different parts of the world travelled to Thailand to compete for the coveted title of Miss Grand International 2020. The Miss Grand International pageant is the very first grand slam and major international beauty pageant to happen amid COVID-19 outbreak. During the pageant, all the health measures and protocols were followed by the organization and the candidates. Upon the candidates’ arrival in Thailand, all of them were quarantined for 14 dates. After the completion of their isolation period, all the candidates underwent COVID-19 test. The candidates as well the organizing committee underwent COVID-19 test before the grand finale as well, ensuring a safe and healthy environment to stage the pageant.
Miss Grand International is one of the biggest and most prestigious international beauty pageants in the world. The pageant is owned by Miss Grand International Organization headed by its founder and president, Mr. Nawat Itsaragrisil. The pageant was founded in the year 2013, and instantly became a grand success. The winner of Miss Grand International pageant is the most travelled beauty queen as compared to other major pageants. Miss Grand International is also regarded as the fastest growing major international pageant. It is popular for its variety of pre-pageant activities, colossal preliminary events and a very glitzy and magnificent world finale event. Its founder and president, Nawat Itsaragrisil is also cited as one of the best international pageant owners in the world.
