“In difficult time, hope can be a very powerful source of reassurance,” says Sharon Aishwarya Dias, while requesting people to restrict their movement amid the novel Coronavirus outbreak. The Indian beauty pageant queen based in Goa also extended her gratitude to the forces involved in tackling this disease that has claimed the lives of several individuals across the world.

While speaking about this pandemic, Sharon mentioned, “As Christopher Reeve once said, ‘When you choose hope anything is possible.’ Hope can be a powerful force, especially in difficult times. Today, the world is facing the coronavirus crisis, a pandemic that has changed life for millions of people. In times like these, hope can be a powerful source of reassurance. The world is connected via a thin yet very powerful thread of hope and faith. The hope that things will definitely get better. In spite of dark times like these there is hope for a brighter tomorrow. All these years, we sat back in our respective homes, office cubicles, colleges, tirelessly complaining about how mundane life was and that we needed a break. And voila! Our wishes did get granted. It may not be in the best interest of course but the recent outbreak of the pandemic ‘Corona’ has certainly provided us with the much needed break some of us always wanted. The world indeed is a wish granting factory however nobody expected this wish would end up causing so much destruction and fear among the people. Amidst all this, the virus has certainly provided us with opportunities to catch up on long lost time. It has helped us spend more time with family, and definitely developing personal skills and rediscovering ourselves.”

She further added, “In such difficult times, people from all walks of life have come forward to help fight the pandemic. From making face masks to providing food and monetary assistance, they are the ones who are helping in their own ways during this global pandemic. COVID-19 is much more than a health crisis. It has also created devastating social, economic and political crises across the globe. The world has experienced a great stagnation. Institutions and organizations – at a bigger level or smaller – are being shut down causing a huge loss to people associated with them in direct or indirect ways. Experts say the virus is at the early stages of its journey in India. While the country took sweeping measures fairly early, high population density, risk of intergenerational transfer; lack of cooperation and not adhering to the recommend measures are still some of the risk many factors that could influence the rate of spread. The nation is bracing for tough times. Social distancing, self-isolation being quarantine in our homes are the few measures we can take which will surely help in breaking the chain of the virus.”

She also extended her gratitude to people involved in the fight against COVID – 19. She mentioned, “I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, NGO’s, volunteers, government officials, vendors, all essential service providers all security personnel and all the other individuals who are fighting against this disease. Also, to the affluently strong people who are making contributions in the form of monetary assistance so that support gets delivered to the people who might not have appropriate resources to sustain in such dark time. Aaap sabhi real life ke superheroes ho! Let us pray for the safety of all these people who are fighting every single day on the front line to keep us safe. “

Sharon Dias is regarded as one of the most eloquent beauty pageant winners the nation has ever produced. She has always raised her voice in support of what is right and has supported the people whose purpose is to give a better tomorrow to the society.
